VMware and the University of West London form Degree Apprenticeship partnership

We are delighted that VMware and the University of West London are working in partnership to deliver Tech Industry Gold Degree Apprenticeships. Read on to find out more about the partnership in our spotlight case study.

VMware has a long history of investing in entry-level talent. Through its intern and new graduate programmes across the world, the company is empowering talent to grow into the future leaders of VMware.

For many years, VMware’s University Talent programme has been focused on engaging with people pursuing an undergraduate or post-graduate university degree. It has become clear that the company needs to expand who it connects with from an emerging talent perspective so that we can continue to attract diverse, innovative people into the company, and the business can remain competitive in the marketplace.

The VMware Apprenticeship programme is one way that they are providing STEM and professional development opportunities for individuals looking to start their careers. This programme is enabling VMware to reach more women and people from other underrepresented communities earlier on in their career journeys, and it is encouraging these individuals to pursue a career in tech.

VMware has chosen The University of West London as a VMware Apprenticeship partner for a number of reasons.

Primarily, the university’s Tech Industry Gold status has meant that it is able to integrate industry-relevant academic learning with the technical, business, and interpersonal skills that require apprentices to excel. This is key for VMWare to successfully merge the practical with the theoretical knowledge within the three-year programme. Secondly, the university’s high ranking, for both student satisfaction and teaching quality, gave VMware the confidence that it would be the right fit for VMware. Finally, the university’s proximity to VMware’s UK office in Staines and its structured mode of delivery (1-day a week at university) allows VMware to ensure the apprentices are receiving the most fulfilling experience possible.

“We are very excited about partnering with VMware through degree apprenticeships to develop digital leaders for the future. Working closely with leading industry partners has always been an essential part of UWL. The wealth of industry knowledge VMware can bring to the university will undoubtedly enrich our career-driven learning environment. I look forward to welcoming the first cohort of VMware degree apprentices onto the Tech Industry Gold accredited BSc Digital & Technology Solutions degree apprenticeship programme at UWL very soon!”

Dr Yu-Chun Pan, Course Leader for Digital Degree and Higher Apprenticeships, University of West London

“At VMware we are delighted we will soon be taking our steps into the world of degree apprenticeships. The relevance of content and the quality of delivery are of paramount importance to us. This is why we’ve chosen a programme which is accredited as Tech Industry Gold”
