What was the best experience of your Tech Industry Gold accredited degree apprenticeship?
Meeting the other degree apprentices. It’s a very intense four-year experience, and I couldn’t have done it without their support, so I’m very thankful for that. The lack of student debt is also worth a mention!
What was the most challenging experience of your degree apprenticeship?
Balancing university work, IBM work and taking care of myself. It could get overwhelming at times and ensuring that I was on top of everything, felt daunting, but I managed it and succeeded.
What would you say now to yourself before you enrolled on your degree apprenticeship?
Give yourself a break and be kind to yourself. It will be very challenging, but in the end, you will get through it and it is ultimately worth it!
What would you say to anyone considering a Tech Industry Gold accredited degree apprenticeship?
It is very important to have an open dialogue with your manager and to ensure you’re consistently managing expectations. Everyone wants you to succeed, so make sure you ask for help when you need it and you’ll find that things will be much easier.
What are you planning to do this summer?
Enjoy my weekends properly! I’m back working full time at IBM, working on my UX design skills, and having my weekends and evenings back without having university work to think about is amazing.
What are your career plans?
I’m building up my UX design skills to pursue a career at IBM. I found during my time at university that it was the creative and design-focussed modules that I enjoyed the most. My goal is to run design thinking workshops and have a broad and impressive portfolio of designs under my belt.
