Spotlight: University of West London Tech Industry Gold accredited degree

According to the National Student Survey 2018, the University of West London (UWL) earned 100% for student satisfaction for their Tech Industry Gold accredited degree, IT Management for Business (ITMB). Read why UWL is another great university for its Tech Industry Gold student experience.

Says Liz Sokolowzki, Course Leader for the Bsc ITMB at UWL, “The Tech Industry Gold accredited ITMB degree is the jewel in the crown and achieves high results. We can see the added value as industry leaders and academics have come together to create a curriculum relevant to industry and enables graduates to be highly employable.

I came across this degree five years ago when asked to develop a Business IT course to extend the School’s portfolio of programmes. I was impressed by the range and coverage of the course and also by the support provided by employers and thought, ‘we have to offer this!’

Students have contact with employers through the bi-annual events, competitions, insight lectures and site visits means that they have opportunities to network with people in the IT industry from day one. The employer sponsored competitions are a great way of honing presentation skills and getting feedback on business ideas from people in the know. Two of our students are currently in the process of developing start-ups for ideas that were first presented at Tech Industry Gold student/employer events.”

The university adapts its curriculum to ensure graduates have the most sought-after skills. There is also ample development opportunity as the School of Computing and Engineering has one of the first higher education partnerships in the UK with Amazon Web Services. In addition, work has begun on the university’s ‘Westmont Enterprise Hub’ to enable students to collaborate with local businesses.

UWL was awarded Silver in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) and ranked top in London for teaching quality and student experience by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018.

Ninety-eight per cent of its graduates are in employment or further study within six months of graduation and they achieve the second highest starting salaries of all the London modern universities (HESA 2018).

According to the National Student Survey 2018, the university has the best Student Union in London with a new bar, café, gym, lounge and office facilities.

UWL also offers the Tech Industry Gold BSc degree apprenticeship and MSc degree apprenticeship.
