Firstly – how are you and how have you been managing during the lockdown?
No one had thought that 2020 would bring a world lockdown with it. This was/is a challenging time, and everyone has been very supportive of each other during this crisis. Whether it’s my lecturers or co-workers, they have provided me with great support.
What was the best experience of your Tech Industry Gold degree apprenticeship?
My entire degree apprenticeship journey has been a great experience that I’ll never forget. I have learned so much as part of this apprenticeship both at university and at work. I joined Accenture with a passion for technology and now I am experienced in multiple programming languages and cloud computing solutions.
What was the most challenging experience of your Tech Industry Gold degree apprenticeship?
The challenging part about a tech degree is that sometimes the code you write to make your application might work locally but some parts could fail when you try and host it. So, finding workarounds for that was a challenge.
A challenging part of a degree apprenticeship is to be able to manage your time between work and university properly. Being able to do this was quite challenging but fun without a doubt.Â
What would you say now, to yourself, before you enrolled on your degree apprenticeship?Â
I am really proud of my decision to do a degree apprenticeship. It allowed me to implement what I learn at university at my workplace and vice versa which really helped me to learn new technologies quickly. It has made me realise what I am capable of and has increased my self-confidence.
What would you say to anyone considering a Tech Industry Gold degree apprenticeship?
My advice to anyone studying a tech degree is to keep going. Technology is an area where you require a lot of patience. When programming an application, you will encounter multiple occasions where your code may not work even though everything is correct. At this point, the best thing to do is to actually think about what you are doing versus what you are trying to do and if everything is still correct, then find a way around the problem but don’t give up! The journey of a tech degree is exciting and full of learning opportunities.
What are your career plans?
My career plan is to continue to learn and stay up to date with new and upcoming tech specialising in Architecture and Cloud Solutions.
Who inspires you?
My family, friends, co-workers, and lecturers have always motivated me and have been there for support. They have shown more confidence in me than I have had in myself. One other thing that inspires me the most is a good challenge.
