Is a digital degree apprenticeship right for my business?

For employers wanting a cost-effective way of getting the digital skills they need, degree apprenticeship programmes can be a good choice, both for creating new jobs and upskilling existing staff.

A wide range of Tech Industry Gold accredited options are now available, equipping employees to work in graduate and Masters level tech roles ranging from cyber security, data analysis, network engineering and software engineering to business analysis and IT consultancy.

Achieving a BSc or MSc is motivational for new recruits and current employees alike, and funding is available – larger employers can apply their apprenticeship levy and smaller employers can access government funding.

“The degree apprenticeship at the University of Winchester has been a fantastic way for us to attract and train new talent. As an SME, it would have been difficult for us to find a course we could trust without the signposting of Tech Industry Gold accreditation. We really value the fact that employers collaborate across industry to help universities create high quality, flexible courses that can meet the needs of companies of all sizes. This informed approach provides the students with an excellent foundation of industry knowledge and business/tech skills. We have also found the team at the University of Winchester to be incredibly supportive and responsive.”

Choosing a programme carrying the industry accreditation Tech Industry Gold gives the reassurance it meets industry standards for quality and relevance. There are already 35 Tech Industry Gold degree apprenticeship programmes at 32 universities, including the first Cyber Security BSc running at Gloucestershire University.

We are also delighted that employers have now access to another high-quality degree apprenticeship programme with the successful Tech Industry Gold accreditation of City University’s MSc Degree Apprenticeship in Data Science. City joins the Tech Industry Gold community as the sixth university to offer an industry-accredited Masters degree apprenticeship, along with Anglia Ruskin University; Henley Business School, the University of Reading; Leeds Beckett University; Manchester Metropolitan University; and the University of Salford.

Several more universities are developing new courses, including the BSc in Digital & Technology Solutions with its highly flexible ‘core and options’ model, more Masters and Cyber Security programmes, and the first Digital User Experience degree apprenticeships.
