Callum Kershaw Class of 2019

Name: Callum Kershaw
University: University of Winchester
Degree Apprenticeship Title: Digital and Technology Solutions
Classification: Pending
Title of Dissertation: Fujitsu Vulnerability Management Service
Employer: Fujitsu
Job Title: Information Security Manager

What was the best experience of your degree apprenticeship?

The best experience for me personally will be meeting Prince Charles HRH of Wales at a Business in the Community event. This will be matched with submitting my dissertation, last week, after four years of hard work.

What was the most challenging experience of your degree apprenticeship?

The most challenging time came in the first four months of joining Fujitsu, moving away from home in South Wales to Reading was a massive culture shock. This coupled with full time-work and studying was quite a challenge.

What would you say now, to yourself, before you enrolled on your degree apprenticeship?

Make sure you take every opportunity you get, network with as many people as you can within the work place. Ensure that you’re in a job you like and you’re constantly developing and progressing as a person both personally and professionally.

What would you say to anyone considering a Tech Industry Gold accredited degree apprenticeship?

Don’t have any second thoughts go and do it. The Tech Industry Gold accreditation can provide you with so many opportunities with global employers and a foot in the door to starting your professional career.

What are you planning to do this summer?

This summer, I will continue working with Fujitsu coupled with a few holidays. Although I need to complete the final part of my degree before I go on my holidays.

What are your career plans?

My career plan is to stay with Fujitsu whilst gaining the valuable experience within the Cyber Space unit. I am hopeful to progress within the business and take on new opportunities.

Who inspires you?

Being Welsh and having a love for rugby the biggest inspiration to me is Richie McCaw. McCaw has never settled for second best and strived to the be the best at everything he done. No matter how many times he got knocked down he would get up and be the best team player.

Anything else to add?

I would like to say a personal thank you to those within in Fujitsu who have supported me over the past four years. Without the likes of Barrie Davies and rest of my colleagues, my time at Fujitsu would have been a lot more difficult.
