Agile working is one of the key skills in demand across the workforce, so when Tech Industry Gold degree students had the opportunity to demonstrate their agility they jumped at the chance.
The Tech Industry Gold competition winners from Loughborough University and Queen Mary University of London adapted their entries to an online version during lockdown and were given the opportunity to take part in a virtual tour of BT’s headquarters.
The first part of the online experience explored the students’ winning concepts where they met and gained commercial advice about their ideas from BT staff who work in sustainability, research, and finance. The second part of the experience included a virtual tour of BT’s cutting-edge developments exploring how consumers and industry sectors will benefit in the future.
The day provided a fascinating and welcome opportunity for all the students.
Here is what the students said:
We were really engaged from start to finish, with the feedback on our presentations being very insightful and confidence-boosting. The part of the day we enjoyed the most was the virtual showcase, as it was very unique. Being able to see the research that BT does behind the scenes gave us a really good insight into what tech companies actually do, whilst personally inspiring me to think outside the box to come up with innovative projects in the future.
Tolga Karabacak (Queen Mary University of London, 1st-year student).
Thank you for today’s opportunity. It was very organised – the different talks from different experts and the virtual tour were excellent. Overall, I think it was a good experience especially on a video call and I believe we did get a good idea of operations within BT.
Ashnee Maganlal (Loughborough University, 1st-year student).
I thought the day was really insightful, my team and I found the Q&A after our video presentation useful as it gave us some additional ideas on how to move forward with our idea. The showcase was also interesting, and we learned a lot about new technology.
Lara Pearson (Loughborough University, 2nd-year student).
Many thanks to the team at BT for creating the opportunity and congratulations to all the students who took part.
